Kisses for the Troops
The goal of Kisses for the Troops each year is to receive 500 hand-written letters to send to "A Million Thanks." Kisses for the Troops was sponsored by Maybelline New York through the donation of 500 color-sensational lipsticks. For each hand-written letter we received, a Maybelline lipstick was given away. On the first day of the event, 500 letters were received in less than four hours. This event won the title “Service Project of the Year” at Georgia College's Bobcat Awards; (competing nominations for this award include Georgia College Miracle Dance Marathon, and the International Justice Mission).
Haunted House
Every year our Lambda Pi chapter hosts the Haunted House with the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity at Georgia College. This event is one of our favorite philanthropy events, and it honors our sister Beth Rihm, who we lost in 2003. The ticket sales to this event help in raising money for the Beth Rihm scholarship for Special Education majors. This year will mark our 8th year doing the Haunted House, and this event remains one of the most anticipated events of the year. Recently, two of our very deserving sisters, Katie Gamble and Kiana Wheeler, were awarded with this scholarship.
Hike for Hearing
We use our philanthropy to protect hearing, raise awareness of noise-induced hearing loss and to bring the gift of hearing to non-hearing people around the world. Speech and Hearing have been our philanthropy focus since 1954. And now, thanks to our partnership with Starkey Hearing Foundation whose missions help the world to hear, we can use philanthropy to improve lives through spoken communications.
Our goal to raise $5,000,000 through Delta Zeta’s Hike for Hearing will help the Starkey Hearing Foundation realize a dream to open speech clinics for those who have only just begun to hear.

National Philanthropy - Speech and Hearing
In 1954, Delta Zeta's Convention body voted to make the cause of speech and hearing loss one of our national philanthropies. Delta Zeta members volunteer many hours for speech and hearing organizations in their communities, such as tutoring children with hearing challenges or spearheading fundraising initiatives. Donations collected assist with speech programs and provide equipment and devices to those with hearing challenges. Funds also support programs aimed at hearing loss prevention. In addition, Delta Zeta has national partnerships focused on speech and hearing-related causes with The Starkey Hearing Foundation, Gallaudet University and the House Research Institute.
The Starkey Hearing Foundation
The Starkey Hearing Foundation's Mission is to change the social consciousness of hearing and hearing matters through education and research; while providing the gift of hearing to those in need around the world. Visit The Starkey Hearing Foundation at http://starkeyhearingfoundation.org. Delta Zeta alumnae and collegiate members can help us provide bears with hearing aid attachments from Build-A-Bear so that children at an upcoming hearing mission can have a 'furry friend just like them.' |
House Research Institute
Since Delta Zeta's partnership with the House Research Institute in 1985, Delta Zeta alumnae and collegians have raised over half a million dollars for the Institute's mission. The late Dr. Howard House, Founder and Chairman Emeritus, said, "Delta Zeta has done so much for our Institute over the years. Words are inadequate to express our appreciation for your continuing support to help us reach our goal 'so all may hear.'" Our first project for the Institute was the furnishing of a parents' conference room. Delta Zeta provides funds for research and clinical services in the Children's Auditory and Research Center. Visit the House Ear Institute at http://www.hei.org/. The Delta Zeta Foundation is a proud supporter of the House Research Institute's Family Camp, which provides a safe, relaxing setting for both kids and parents to have fun and share their experiences. |
Gallaudet University
Since 1954, Delta Zeta Sorority has shared a partnership with Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., the world's only university with undergraduate programs accessible to hearing-impaired students. Delta Zeta endowed the Delta Zeta Scholarship Fund and the Fine Arts Endowment Fund. In 1995, the Delta Zeta Dance Studio was dedicated. Donations to the Delta Zeta Foundation that are designated for Gallaudet University are used to fund Gallaudet Scholarships or other funding needs for the University, including endowment support for the library and performing arts. Gallaudet University manages the funds donated, selects the scholarship recipients from the University, and administers the disbursement of scholarship funds.
